The Exclusive Company to Close All Stores

mr radio man

After 66 years of bringing music and memories to generations throughout Wisconsin, it is with a heavy heart we announce The Exclusive Company will be closing all of our stores in the coming months.  This sad development has come about due to the sudden passing of our founder and owner, James “Mr. G” Giombetti.

Mr. G opened the first store in his hometown of West Bend in 1956.  From that day forward, The Exclusive Company became his one and only passion and purpose in life.  Over the years he grew the business into a thriving chain of record stores, and endeared himself to his loyal customers and all who knew him.

Mr. G was often asked who his favorite artists were and he always gave the same answer; “anyone who records and/or performs with passion, makes the most of their talent, gives 100 percent at all times, and always gives the public their money’s worth.”  That is exactly how he ran The Exclusive Company each and every day.

Many of you knew Mr. G from his thousands of radio ads over the years.  In each of those ads you heard the passion he had for both The Exclusive Company and the music he loved.  He worked tirelessly seven days a week to ensure The Exclusive Company would always provide the largest selection of music at the lowest price in a fun, friendly, and diverse environment for music lovers of all ages.

With the passing of Mr. G, we have lost not only the “voice” of The Exclusive Company but its very soul.  Mr. G was The Exclusive Company and The Exclusive Company was Mr. G.  Sadly and simply, The Exclusive Company cannot, and should not, go on one without the other.

Our greatest hopes and efforts were for all of our locations to continue under new ownership as locally owned independent record stores.  That will be the case at some locations but not all.  We are confident that any void left behind by the departure of The Exclusive Company will soon be filled by the next generation of music loving Wisconsin entrepreneurs.

In the coming days we will be announcing through our website, social media, radio, and print a phased schedule for the closing of each store.  All of the closing stores will go through a liquidation of their entire inventory.

In celebration and appreciation of our long time loyal customers who have so faithfully supported us for the past 66 years, we will be passing on never before seen savings on all of your favorite music, equipment, and accessories.  No gimmicks, no fine print.  We will be selling to the bare walls.  Everything must go!

Even with all of the upcoming changes, we feel it is very important to continue our traditional participation and support of Record Store Day on Saturday, April 23rd.  Our stores in Green Bay, Appleton, Oshkosh, Milwaukee (Farwell) and Greenfield will all participate as usual with a full complement of special Record Store Day releases.  So come in on April 23rd to celebrate this very special annual event with us one last time.

Finally, as we prepare for the end of The Exclusive Company’s era in the Wisconsin music industry, we invite you all to help us remember and honor Mr. G’s life and legacy by stopping in to reminisce, share a story, or simply say goodbye.

Get ready Wisconsin to “say it with me” one last time.

Here’s to the Memories

We have all missed hearing Mr. G’s recognizable booming voice on the radio.  His ads always conveyed his passion and excitement for his life’s work. It seems appropriate to share this archived recording one more time as we all reminisce and remember the “voice” of The Exclusive Company, and the exceptional man who gave his heart and life to bring music and joy to Wisconsin. So here from our Exclusive Company radio archives and “The Great Beyond”, hear it from Mr. G himself.
